Hospital fire in India, 30 killed

New Delhi - Tragic! Major fire occurred in a hospital in the city of Kolkata, eastern India. At least 30 people were killed in that tragic event.

"I can confirm that at least 30 people have lost their lives in the incident," said Deputy Commissioner of Police B. Dasgupta was quoted as saying by AFP news agency on Friday (12/09/2011).

Diimbuhkannya, police have managed to save about 50-60 people from the AMRI hospital.

Among the victims were killed, most of the patients. They are trapped by smoke and flames that attack the hospital on Friday morning local time.

"We have transferred 50 patients to the nearest hospital. The situation is still creepy today," said Director of the Fire Department, Gopal Bhattacharya.

The fire started at about 3 am local time. Not yet known to cause fires. But the red rooster is believed to originate from the basement of the five-story hospital was.
